Bill Sherman , Golden K member, has arranged a field trip for us to tour the newly

remodeled Des Moines Franklin Ave. Branch Library located at 5000 Franklin Avenue.

Our usual business meeting will begin at 8:45 am at the library and will be followed by

a presentation and tour conducted by Kathy Bognanni, Franklin Ave. Librarian.

Jeff Chelesivig, will present a program reviewing current status and activities at the

Des Moines Civic Center.  Jeff will be introduced by Don Murphy.

Linda Juckette , will present a program on horse racing in Iowa.  Linda will

Bulletin Board

1. Don Neumann explained the role and time commitments of Golden K student mentors and appealed to all Golden K members to consider volunteering as mentors at Findley and Capital View Schools.  If you are willing to participate in the mentor program, contact Don Neumann at 334-7277.
2. Larry Streyffeler announced that our annual Pancake Day fund raising activity will be held on Saturday, October 15.  Ticket envelopes are currently available for pick-up in our meeting room.  Please pick up your ticket envelopes as soon as possible.
3. A sales incentive is being offered this year to encourage pancake ticket sales.  The Golden K member selling the greatest number of tickets will receive a fully paid meal for two at any local area restaurant of their choice.
4. Six Trustees will be designated to represent the 24 regions within the Iowa/Nebraska Kiwanis District.  These Trustees will be responsible for handling finance and planning activities within their assigned district.  Lt. Governors will continue to guide regional club activities and assist local club officers within each region.

Notes of Interest

• Bob Leighton, past Golden K member died of a long term disability during August.
• Jim Cunningham, long standing piano player at regular Golden K meetings and entertainer for many Golden K functions died in August following a fall and extensive hip surgery.
• Rusty Laird is currently recovering in the Deerfield health unit.  We look forward to seeing Rusty back attending meetings later this fall.
• Bob Brown, past Golden K member, died during August.
