1.
During 2009 Golden K members contributed funds to send 13 campers
to the Des Moines YMCA Youth Camp at Boone for a week of fun and
education. On February 4, Don Neumann, our
leading jams and jellies salesperson, announced the kick-off of
a 2010 fund raising effort to send 13 or more additional campers
to Y Camp this year. All club members are encouraged to
participate, hopefully sending 14 or 15 individuals to Y Camp
for a fun filled week this summer.
2.
On February 24, Don Neumann announced that sufficient
funds had been pledged to assure that 14+ under-privileged youth
will be sent to Y Camp during 2010, Don is a great example
of what a good jams and jellies salesperson can accomplish.
Now all club members need to continue their financial support.
Maybe we can send 15 complete individuals to camp this summer.
3.
Members are requested to remain seated at the end of each program
until the President has an opportunity to thank the speaker and
present the complimentary Kiwanis pen.
4.
Chelsey Smith, fifth grade teacher at Findley School, reported
on the selection program utilized at Findley to identify deserving
students for participation in the Y Camp program. She stressed
the motivational value of the program and thanked Golden K members
for their support of the program.
Notes
of Interest
- February
4 was a day for celebration. Cleatie Devine, Roger
Hudson and Don Shaw were all back attending meetings
following health related problems. Welcome back, all three.
We are happy to see that all of you are doing well.
- Wayne Burger suffered
a fall which injured his back cracking one or more vertebra.
We hope to see Wayne feeling better and back attending meetings
soon.
- Jim Wise was
hospitalized briefly with chest pains during the second week of
February. Hopefully, it was a result only of the shock of
winning the 50/50 cash on February 4.
- Virginia Burmeister
fell and has been taking pain medication to help deal
with a very sore back.
- February 25 was a day
of concern. Announcements indicated Cecil Brewton
is in the hospital with pneumonia, Dick Carey
is in the hospital for hip replacement surgery and Dick
Doughan
is having knee surgery. Happily, Jim Wise was
back attending today's meeting.
